Research Interests
My research interests focus on late antiquity and the early Middle Ages. My current dissertation research focuses on understanding community and identity in this period by investigating fifth- and early sixth-century Mediterranean maritime communities. By extension, my research interests include Vandals, the end of the western Roman Empire, the eastern Roman Empire, seaborne travel and trade, naval conflicts, and piracy. I especially am interested in identity and community as formed through actions and relationships among people and between people and places.
