The Program in Medieval Studies is supported by rich institutional resources for scholarship and teaching.
Foremost among these is the University of Illinois Library, one of the world's great academic libraries and particularly strong in fields relating to Medieval Studies. The Rare Book & Manuscript Library holds over 100 medieval manuscripts and fragments of manuscripts, and its incunable collection is the sixth largest in North America. Please see additional Library resource descriptions for more information.
The University is also home to two museums, The Spurlock Musuem of World Cultures and the Krannert Museum of Art, both of which include medieval art and artifacts in their collections.
Faculty in the Program edit prominent scholarly journals in the field, including The Medieval Globe.
For graduate students, robust funding for research and travel, including support for conferences and summer travel, is available; funding applications are invited twice yearly, in the fall and spring semesters.
For undergraduates, requests for funding -- for study abroad, conferences, or research travel -- are considered on case-by-case basis throughout the year.
